"Chau” in Hindi and Persian means four directions and “bara” in Hindi means a house and in Persian, a fortified place. The Chaubara, a cylindrical 71-foot tower, stands at the junction of four roads in the centre of the town.
One of the roads connects the Mahamud Gawan madarasa. It was probably built as a watchtower and also to keep the city streets under supervision.
